The Victoria Hall Theatre
Community theatre run by local volunteers
Host to both Professional and Amateur Productions
About
This much loved Victorian building was built in 1888 as a community centre.
It has, over the years, served as a concert hall, library, dance hall, wartime canteen, and a youth club
(among many other things!).
In 1996, with an investment from a local business and support from many volunteers,
The Victoria Hall was converted into a theatre.
This was also when The Victoria Hall Performing Arts Association (V.H.P.A.A.) was established and registered as a charity.
In the years since its inception, The Victoria Hall Theatre has proved to be a versatile and stimulating venue that has hosted an array of performance based arts for numerous amateur and professional groups.
The theatre hosts, on average, between 15 - 20 productions per year, including plays, musicals, stand-up comedy, children’s drama workshops, old time music-hall, variety acts and, of course, the ever-popular, annual family Christmas show.
In 2011, after years of fundraising, the V.H.P.A.A. succeeded in purchasing the hall from Essex County Council, saving it from being redeveloped and securing its future for the community and generations to come. It is run solely by volunteers, and on a not-for-profit basis.
The Victoria Hall Theatre is proud to support and encourage performing arts in and for the local community.
